    Deji Adeyanju on 2027 Election

As Nigeria moves closer to the highly anticipated 2027 general election, human rights lawyer and social commentator Deji Adeyanju has stirred political discourse by sharing a strong opinion about the emerging political landscape. Adeyanju stated that among all potential presidential aspirants from the southern region, only former President Goodluck Jonathan possesses the national influence and electoral credibility required to challenge and potentially defeat the incumbent president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Adeyanju, who is known for his outspoken views on governance and politics, made the assertion via a post on his verified account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In the post, he cast doubt on the seriousness of other southern contenders rumored to be vying for the presidency.

According to him, these aspirants lack the political gravitas to pose any real threat to Tinubu’s reelection chances, and instead, he described them as mere "content creators" — individuals who, in his view, are more focused on entertaining their supporters and building media presence rather than mounting any meaningful political challenge.

His exact words read …

“The only southern candidate that can defeat Tinubu is GEJ and he will not run against Tinubu. All others are content creators who are entertaining their supporters and Nigerians. This post will sense to you until after 2027 election. Tinubu is not Buhari or GEJ.”

By saying “Tinubu is not Buhari or GEJ,” Adeyanju implied that Tinubu is a more formidable political strategist than his predecessors and should not be underestimated by opponents relying solely on populism or social media influence.

His post has since sparked significant reactions online, with many users debating the possibility of Jonathan returning to the political scene, and questioning whether other prominent southern figures have the capacity to unify opposition support and mount a serious challenge.

The remark also raises fresh speculation about the role Goodluck Jonathan could play in the 2027 political race, despite his current silence on any such intentions. It is not the first time calls have been made for the former president to return, with many citing his calm demeanor and experience as assets Nigeria may still need.
