An Ohio woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, has officially filed a lawsuit against Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B, stemming from a 2023 concert incident in which the artist allegedly threw a microphone that struck her during a performance in Las Vegas.

The legal complaint was filed in Nevada and centers around Cardi B's appearance at Drai’s Beachclub, a popular nightclub on the Las Vegas Strip, where the rapper—born Belcalis Marlenis Cephus—was performing in front of a packed audience.

According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe asserts that she suffered bodily injuries, as well as emotional distress, humiliation, damage to her reputation, and financial loss as a result of being struck by the microphone thrown by Cardi B. The complaint claims that Cardi B’s actions were both intentional and reckless.

The incident was caught on video and quickly went viral on social media platforms, showing a concertgoer throwing water towards Cardi B while she was performing onstage. In response, the rapper appeared to throw her microphone in the direction of the splash. The video does not clearly show who was hit, but Jane Doe claims she was the person struck on her right shoulder by the airborne microphone.

Interestingly, the lawsuit notes that earlier during the same concert, Cardi B had allegedly encouraged fans to throw water on her as a form of crowd interaction. Jane Doe claims this led her to believe the action would be welcomed. She further alleges that other fans had done so earlier in the performance without incident or retaliation.

The same microphone involved in the altercation was later auctioned online for nearly $99,000, a move which the lawsuit argues added further emotional distress to the plaintiff, who felt the situation was being commercialized and mocked publicly.

In her legal filing, Jane Doe is seeking a minimum of $15,000 in general damages, as well as unspecified special and punitive damages to address the broader impact of the incident on her physical and emotional well-being.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation shortly after the video surfaced, but ultimately concluded that there was not enough evidence to file criminal charges. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and declined to pursue prosecution, effectively closing the matter on the criminal side.
