Controversial Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred massive reactions online after mocking the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari in a viral video that has since sparked heated debates among Nigerians.
This bold statement from Portable came shortly after the announcement of Buhari’s death, who reportedly passed away in the United Kingdom following a prolonged illness that led to his hospitalization and eventual demise.
In the now trending video circulating widely on social media platforms, Portable openly celebrated Buhari’s death while making serious allegations against the late former president. He accused Buhari of being directly responsible for the infamous 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the nationwide #EndSARS protests, a tragic incident where security forces allegedly opened fire on peaceful demonstrators demanding an end to police brutality in Nigeria.
“The man that said they should shoot our people at the Lekki Still Gate is dead. Let us do good. May he die again in Heaven. He was the one that ordered the shooting, not Tinubu. He died in London,” Portable declared in the video, drawing mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
Captioning the video, he added, “Do Good because of tomorrow…..,” seemingly urging his followers to reflect on their actions and the importance of living a righteous life.
Known for his controversial lifestyle, unpredictable outbursts, and unfiltered opinions, Portable once again seized the moment to address his audience directly, stressing that the consequences of one’s actions continue even after death. He implored Nigerians to act with integrity and compassion, emphasizing that life’s deeds cannot be hidden forever and will eventually be judged.
The Lekki Toll Gate incident remains one of the most painful and contentious moments in Nigeria’s modern history, with many young Nigerians still grieving and demanding justice for the victims. The scars of the October 20, 2020, shooting have yet to fully heal, and Portable’s comments have reignited discussions around accountability and leadership responsibility in Nigeria.
