Controversial Nigerian singer and record label executive, Portable, has made headlines once again after rejecting a ₦120 million offer to participate in a proposed celebrity boxing match against outspoken social media activist VeryDarkMan. Instead, the singer is demanding a whopping ₦1 billion to accept the challenge.
The development came to light through a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), where Portable boldly declared that the previously proposed ₦100 million for the winner and ₦20 million for the loser is far too little for someone of his calibre.
In the viral video, Portable emphasized that he regularly receives huge sums of money from his fans and therefore sees no justification in accepting what he considers a low offer for such a high-risk bout.
In his words:
“I don collect money wey pass ₦20 million, my fans dey give me. The ₦100 million my fans dey give me. ₦100 million small for me to fight VeryDarkMan, make them give me ₦1 billion.”
He went on to say:
“If I see someone who’ll give me ₦1 billion, I’ll fight him. I’ll beat him totally. Before I use juju on him, I’ll fight him.”
Portable also took shots at those backing the match, implying that they themselves are afraid of VeryDarkMan and are trying to set him up for entertainment. According to him, if he's going to step into the ring and take the risks involved, it must come with a massive payout that justifies the attention and danger.
The singer’s comments come in response to a boxing match proposal made by talent manager Soso Soberekon, who had earlier pledged a total of ₦120 million to facilitate the fight — with ₦100 million designated for the winner and ₦20 million as consolation for the loser.
