A surprising disclosure has emerged from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), as Pastor Folu Adeboye, the esteemed wife of the General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, recounted a troubling incident involving one of the church’s pastors. According to her, the unnamed pastor diverted $8,000 intended for church development and fled to the United States, leaving behind both his calling and his wife.
Pastor Folu Adeboye shared the incident during a recent men’s programme hosted by RCCG, where she was invited to speak. A clip from her ministration, where she told the story, has since gone viral, stirring conversations among members of the church and the broader Christian community.

According to Pastor Folu, the pastor in question hails from Ekiti State and had been posted to Cape Town, South Africa, to oversee a mission field under the RCCG umbrella. During one of her missionary visits to South Africa, she was scheduled to preach at his parish, but what she found was unexpected.
To her surprise, the service was not held in a conventional church building but in a restaurant. During her message, a woman suddenly entered the premises and began removing chairs, signaling the end of their rental time. It became clear that the congregation had no permanent place of worship.
Touched by the condition of the parish and the dedication of the members, a generous donation of $8,000 was made to help the church begin the process of acquiring a permanent worship site.
However, the pastor had a different plan. He proposed that the $8,000 be used to purchase a fairly used vehicle that would be leased to a local tourism company. He claimed that the income generated from the lease would eventually be used to buy land for the church.
Pastor E.A. Adeboye, after reviewing the suggestion, approved the idea, seeing it as a wise investment that would benefit the mission long term. But things didn’t go as expected.
Instead of carrying out the proposed plan, the pastor disappeared. He left his wife behind in South Africa, quietly relocated to the United States, and went on to marry another woman. The church was left without its funds, its leader, or its vision for growth.
Pastor Folu emphasized the importance of integrity and faithfulness in ministry, urging those entrusted with God’s resources to remain accountable and diligent in their responsibilities.
