Taking to her official Facebook page on Thursday morning, Yinka dismissed the widely circulated notion that their relationship collapsed because they made it public on social media. According to her, the root cause was internal, not external — stressing that personal and relational challenges between herself and Linc Edochie led to the breakup, not public attention or internet trolls.

She pushed back against what she described as a “silly superstition” — the belief that sharing details of one’s relationship online automatically invites doom. Yinka emphasised that healthy relationships are not destroyed by public visibility but by the actions and decisions of the two people involved.

“First of all,” she wrote, “you folks need to stop this silly superstition about people destroying relationships when it is made public. When two people are in a committed relationship, the only people that can destroy it are those two and what they allow.”

She also addressed the circumstances under which their engagement was announced online, explaining that Linc Edochie was the one who first shared their photos publicly. According to her, the post came with her full consent and was done to commemorate her birthday earlier this year. She noted that there were also immigration-related reasons that required them to make the relationship visible online.

“I would never announce an engagement without the consent of the other person. That makes absolutely no sense. Also if you are filing immigration papers, you have to announce it on social media. Linc and I were well aware of that and chose to do that. Linc was the first person that posted pictures of us & he asked for my permission.”

She further directed her frustration toward a group she referred to as “May Nation,” accusing them of spreading misleading narratives and distorting the facts surrounding the relationship. However, Yinka firmly reiterated that neither May Nation nor any outside party played a role in the end of the relationship.

Yinka Theisen on why her relationship crashed

‘’I just read a post by someone who happened to have been a Facebook connection for awhile. I have removed the individual. He wrote about me & that my relationship ended because I shared my engagement & supposedly I was told not to share it.

First of all you folks need to stop this silly superstition about people destroying relationships when it is made public. When two people are in a committed relationship, the only people that can destroy it are those two and what they allow. I would never announce an engagement without the consent of the other person. That makes absolutely no sense. Also if you are filing immigration papers, you have to announce it on social media.

Linc and I were well aware of that and chose to do that. Linc was the first person that posted pictures of us & he asked for my permission. It was my birthday this year and he wanted to announce it. A group called May Nation has continued to distort this. No group of people are responsible for the end of the relationship.

There were obvious cracks that I chose not to mention. It was not the first time we had issues. Jealous people are not responsible for the end of our relationship. Linc and I are. Also I believe what is meant for me can never be taken away from me. If a relationship ends, no matter how sad it is, it was meant to end. Some Nigerians have such warped way of thinking.

I don’t regret celebrating my relationship on social media. It was a beautiful one while it lasted. I chose to remember the fond moments rather than dwelling on negativity. He is a good man with lots of admirable qualities. That is how I chose to remember him & not some negative things that occurred at the end. ‘’
