    MMIA ₦712 Billion Renovation

The federal government has officially approved a massive renovation project valued at ₦712 billion for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, marking one of the largest infrastructural investments in the country’s aviation sector in recent years.

The announcement was made by Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House in Abuja. The meeting was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Keyamo explained that the renovation will involve a complete overhaul of the existing international terminal. The building will be stripped down to its foundational structure and rebuilt with state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to meet global aviation standards.

“Just for transparency to let the public know, we are going to complete the mechanical, electrical, plumbing—everything—to have a brand-new airport,” the minister stated.

He further revealed that the reconstruction project is projected to span a period of 22 months, with a total budget of ₦712,258,565,482.18. This ambitious move aligns with the government’s broader agenda to modernize key transportation infrastructure across the country.

The announcement has sparked widespread public interest and reactions across social media, with many Nigerians voicing their opinions—some skeptical, others hopeful about the development.
