APC chairman in Edo state, Jarret Tenebe has stirred controversy by stating that the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, cannot enter Edo State without obtaining permission due to the level of public resentment allegedly held against him.
He made this comment following a warning issued by the state governor, Okpebholo, who reportedly cautioned that Peter Obi must seek proper security clearance before making any visit to the state.
According to Tenebe, the people of Edo State have not forgiven Peter Obi for the tragic events that unfolded during one of his previous visits, which reportedly resulted in the loss of lives. He claimed that the people, himself included, harbour strong negative feelings toward the former Anambra governor, and that such sentiments could pose a threat if his presence in the state goes unregulated.
He explained that it is for this reason that Governor Okpebholo was right to insist that Peter Obi must inform the state authorities beforehand, particularly to ensure the safety and stability of the region during such visits.
He partly said…
“The governor can say that because of the kind of hatred that people had for Peter Obi, including me. And when you have so many of us that have such hatred for people like that. Most especially when they came to Edo state and people died, it is proper for him to tell the governor before he comes so that people like us will be sent on errand out of Edo…”
