Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has strongly advocated for the South-East region to give massive support to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Umahi stated that Tinubu deserves at least 90% of the region’s votes, primarily because of the fair and inclusive manner in which road infrastructure projects have been distributed under his administration.

Reacting to widespread claims of marginalisation circulating on social media, Umahi dismissed the accusations as both unfounded and misleading. He emphasized that President Tinubu has been intentional in promoting equity in project allocations, with a clear vision of uniting the nation and rekindling the hopes of Nigerians, particularly in regions that previously felt sidelined.

Umahi provided extensive details on the numerous ongoing and completed projects across the South-East. He highlighted that the region is fully integrated into Tinubu’s third-term legacy initiative, which spans a total length of 465km across six states: Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Abuja. The Minister revealed that this ambitious infrastructure development has already secured a financial commitment of ₦445.8 billion, with ₦108 billion disbursed to date, ensuring the smooth progress of the work.

Tinubu’s road projects in South-East

The 2nd Niger Bridge access roads in Delta and Anambra States (₦146bn and ₦176bn respectively)
The Enugu-Onitsha Road (₦202bn under MTN Tax Credit, plus ₦150bn for the remaining section)
The Enugu–Port Harcourt Road, Enugu–Abakaliki Road, Afikpo–Abia–Imo Road, and several others.

Speaking further, Umahi took aim at critics who he accused of twisting facts and attempting to mislead the public. He urged the people of the South-East to be wary of such misinformation and instead recognize the commitment and fairness of President Tinubu’s administration in driving national development, especially in the region.

Umahi concluded his statement by appealing to the South-East to adopt a politics of national unity, set aside emotional sentiments, and throw their full support behind Tinubu for a second term. He stressed the importance of remaining patient and strategic, asserting that the region's time to lead the nation will come eventually, but “not in 2027.”
