The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old woman, Hadiza Mamuda, for allegedly killing her husband during a domestic argument that turned violent in Fika Local Government Area of the state.
The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 23, in Garin Abba village, a rural community within Fika LGA. In a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, authorities revealed chilling details surrounding the case.
According to SP Abdulkarim, the suspect, Hadiza Mamuda, allegedly attacked her husband with a wooden object during a heated argument over food-related issues. The confrontation quickly escalated, and in a fit of rage, she struck the man with a log of wood, resulting in fatal injuries.
“The Yobe State Police Command, through its Fika Divisional Headquarters, has apprehended Hadiza Mamuda, aged 35, from Garin Abba Village, for the alleged murder of her husband. The assault followed a serious argument over food preparation. She is reported to have used a heavy wooden log to fatally strike the deceased,” the statement said.
Tragically, the man—who was revealed to be a polygamous husband with two wives and five children—succumbed to the injuries on the spot. Family members and neighbors were left in shock as the man was confirmed dead at the scene before medical help could arrive.
The police confirmed that Hadiza Mamuda was taken into custody shortly after the incident, and she is currently being held while a full criminal investigation is underway. Authorities say she will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the deeply disturbing event, Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the act of violence. He described the incident as both tragic and avoidable, stressing the importance of addressing domestic violence through proactive community efforts.
“This case underscores the urgent need for families and communities to adopt non-violent conflict resolution methods,” CP Ado said. “The Commissioner of Police emphasizes the need for marital community intervention initiatives to address domestic violence and abuse,” the official statement continued.
CP Ado also made an impassioned call to religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community-based organizations to take an active role in educating couples on peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and emotional management in marriages. He warned that unresolved domestic issues, if left unaddressed, could lead to tragic consequences like the one recorded in Fika.
The Yobe State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the lives of all residents in the state and ensuring that justice is served swiftly. The Command also reiterated its zero-tolerance stance toward acts of domestic abuse and promised to intensify public sensitisation campaigns.
