Manchester United have officially confirmed that their latest signing, Bryan Mbeumo, will wear the No. 19 jersey following his highly anticipated move from Brentford.
The deal, worth a total of £71 million, includes an initial fee of £65 million and £6 million in potential performance-based add-ons, making it one of the most significant transfers of the summer window.
Mbeumo, a Cameroon international, becomes United’s second marquee addition this summer after the arrival of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha. The club is actively reinforcing its squad under new head coach Ruben Amorim as they prepare for a competitive 2025/26 campaign.
During his time at Brentford, Mbeumo established himself as a consistent performer, scoring 70 goals in 242 appearances and helping to solidify the club’s presence in the Premier League. He wore the No. 19 shirt throughout his time with the Bees and has opted to retain it at his new club.
The No. 19 shirt at Manchester United was last worn by French centre-back Raphael Varane, who departed Old Trafford at the end of the 2023/24 season. Previous notable holders of the number include Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck, and Eric Djemba-Djemba.
Speaking at his unveiling, Mbeumo expressed immense pride in joining the Red Devils: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take it. This is the club of my dreams—the team whose shirt I wore growing up. I’m here to give everything and push myself to a new level.”
He also commended the club’s vision and ambition under manager Ruben Amorim, stating his readiness to contribute to the club’s aspirations to win major domestic and European titles.
