Liverpool have made a significant move in the summer transfer market by submitting a €75 million bid for highly rated French striker Hugo Ekitiké, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt, according to reports from Sky Sports News.
Negotiations between the two clubs are said to be progressing well, with both parties optimistic about reaching an agreement. The 23-year-old forward is reportedly keen on joining the Premier League giants, with Anfield being his preferred destination over other interested clubs.
Ekitiké, who has already earned recognition as a full international with France, was previously the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies were the first club to formally approach Frankfurt and submit an official offer for the talented attacker.
Despite Newcastle's strong interest and initial offer, Ekitiké’s desire to play under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot and compete for top honours with the Reds ultimately swayed the situation. As a result, Newcastle chose to withdraw from the race, leaving Liverpool as the front-runners to secure his signature.
The Reds had earlier attempted a bold swoop for Swedish striker Alexander Isak, currently at Newcastle, submitting a mammoth £120 million offer. However, the Tyneside club made it clear that Isak was not available for transfer, even for a record-breaking fee.
With the Isak deal falling through, Liverpool quickly shifted focus to Hugo Ekitiké as an alternative. The Frenchman’s age, versatility, and potential make him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s evolving attacking setup under their new management.
Liverpool are now pressing ahead with efforts to finalise the deal in the coming days. The club is aiming to complete the transfer before the start of pre-season training as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign with renewed ambitions.
