A final-year student has tragically lost his life just two days after celebrating his sign-out, marking the end of his undergraduate journey. The devastating incident reportedly occurred when he was shot by suspected cultists outside the university campus, leaving the academic community and the entire state in mourning.
The sad news was first brought to public attention by social media user Maaloo Dgreat, who took to Facebook to share the heartbreaking details. The incident has since gone viral across platforms, particularly on X (formerly known as Twitter), stirring outrage and grief nationwide.
In a deeply emotional post, Maaloo Dgreat wrote: “I am heartbroken to hear about your death. The cultists who shot you will never know peace. This is not just a great loss to NIDSUG but to Rivers State. Rest on, Precious A. Briggs.”
He went on to provide more context regarding the tragic incident, stating: “He was shot last night by cultists outside the school campus in Amassoma. I was reliably told that he had a quarrel and a fight with a cult group and was shot as he turned to go home.”
According to the post, after the attack, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital by his friends, but unfortunately, the medical facility allegedly refused to treat him. Maaloo lamented: “It is so sad and heartbreaking. This is the person who signed out two days ago and was awaiting his final project defense in just three days. It is so sad.”
The tragic incident has drawn widespread attention and condemnation, with social media users and concerned citizens reacting in the comment section with disbelief, sorrow, and calls for justice.
