The 41-year-old widower made the controversial move on July 9, 2025, by introducing himself in a Facebook group known as “God Fearing Singles,” where he declared his desire to meet a “God-fearing sister” for companionship and possibly marriage in the future.

In the post, Ubong wrote: “Good morning God-fearing faithfuls. I’m Ubong Uwak from Nigeria, 41yrs. Widower, no kids yet, hoping to have someday. Let’s praise God together. Feel free to message. New here. I need a God-fearing sister.”

This message came at a time when preparations were still underway for the funeral of his wife, which is scheduled to take place on August 1, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Just days after the controversial post, on July 20, Ubong took to his personal Facebook page to share the obituary flyer of his late wife. In that post, he expressed his sorrow and mourned her untimely passing with emotional words that appeared to contradict his earlier relationship-seeking message.

“Princess, I can’t still place my hands on what happened. But God will avenge your death. God be with you till we meet again. I will love you till eternity. Rest on,” Ubong wrote.

The couple were reportedly married in 2020 and had no children during their marriage. As of now, the exact cause of Glory’s death remains undisclosed, further fueling speculation and emotional reactions from the public.

Ubong’s actions have drawn widespread condemnation and scrutiny on social media, with many users questioning the timing of his search for a new partner and expressing concerns over the sincerity of his mourning. His critics viewed the move as inappropriate, considering the short time that had passed since his wife’s death and the fact that her burial had not yet taken place.

One Facebook user, Sandra Okereke, voiced her disapproval, writing: “Dear Young Woman. Please, don’t go and die for nothing o. Dear Glory is yet to be buried but just imagine what the husband of her youth is doing on Facebook! Glory’s death is still questionable o. It is well. Just imagine what Men are doing.”

While a small number of commenters expressed sympathy toward Ubong’s situation and acknowledged the pain of losing a spouse, the overwhelming majority criticized what they perceived as an act of emotional insensitivity and poor judgment. Many questioned the authenticity of his grief, given the timing of his search for a new relationship.

The incident has reignited conversations around grief, mourning practices, and societal expectations for widowed individuals, especially in cases involving sudden or unexplained deaths. As the burial date approaches, public attention remains fixed on Ubong Uwak and the unfolding reactions to his controversial decision.
