A Nigerian man who once pledged to burn his international passport if Bola Ahmed Tinubu failed to win the 2023 presidential election has now cried out in despair, revealing he can no longer afford fuel or even basic sustenance—despite campaigning passionately for the president’s victory.
The emotional plea was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @ChuksEricE, accompanied by a video in which the man laments his current predicament and expresses deep disillusionment with his sacrifices.
In the run-up to the election, the man had declared unyielding support for Tinubu—including burning his passport if the candidate lost—and publicly called for the country to be divided into three parts. His dedication extended to painting Tinubu’s name on his motorcycle as a sign of loyalty and belief in the cause.
In his own words: “I voted for Tinubu. I’m the one who said if Tinubu no enter, I’ll burn my international passport. Since he became president, things have become hard for me.”
He continued by explaining the toll his activism took: “I’ve not seen money to buy fuel. Even to eat is a problem. I now beg people who voted for Peter Obi just to get fuel.”
