A report card remark made by a primary school teacher has stirred significant attention and gone viral on social media, with many questioning the professionalism and sensitivity of the comment given the student’s academic performance and ranking.
The student in question, Nelson Yvonne, a young Primary 4 pupil at Manhyia Methodist Primary School, secured the 18th position in her class, prompting mixed reactions from social media users after a video of her report card surfaced online.
The video, originally shared on TikTok, has since gained traction across several platforms, showing a full breakdown of Nelson’s academic performance across various subjects, including individual scores, class rankings per subject, and a total aggregate score.
Her academic scores, which appear on the report card, include 56 in English where she ranked 23rd, and 60 in Mathematics, placing her at 19th position. In subjects like Creative Arts and RMF, she performed better with 64 and 74 respectively, ranking 12th in both. She managed 56 in Computing (20th place), and 58 in both History (20th) and Asante Twi, where she ranked 56th. However, her lowest performance came in Science, where she scored 44 and placed 39th.
Despite her performance being generally average to above average across several subjects, her teacher’s remarks reportedly raised concerns, sparking a flurry of commentary and emotional reactions from viewers and commentators online.
Her total aggregate score was 464, which many believe is still commendable for a Primary 4 student, making the teacher’s comment seem overly harsh or discouraging.
