A UK-based Nigerian videographer has opened up about a heartbreaking experience after unexpectedly discovering his girlfriend at a singles matchmaking event. The shocking twist came when she publicly declared that she had been single for two years — a claim that directly contradicted their ongoing relationship.
The videographer, who had been hired to cover the singles event hosted by a well-known UK TikTok matchmaking group, arrived slightly behind schedule due to repeated train cancellations. However, he made it just in time to capture the opening part of the event.
To his disbelief, as he started filming, he noticed his girlfriend among the attendees. What followed left him emotionally shattered.
During the opening introduction round — where guests were asked to state their name, current city, and the length of time they had been single — the woman confidently introduced herself and claimed that she had been single for two years. She added that her last relationship ended in Nigeria and she had remained unattached since relocating to the UK.
This revelation came as a huge blow to the videographer, who had been in a relationship with her since May 18, just two months prior to the event. He was stunned into silence.
“I was shocked,” he said. “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I just kept filming. She didn’t notice me, and for that I’m grateful.”
Despite the pain, he chose not to confront her at the venue and continued his duties as professionally as possible. But the situation worsened when she actively participated in the live matchmaking segment of the event and ended up being paired with another man.
With a heavy heart, he watched her leave the venue in the man’s car, all while she was still in a relationship with him.
Later that evening, the girlfriend texted him, claiming she had been unwell and stayed indoors all day, not knowing he had witnessed her at the event.
The incident has left the videographer devastated. Their relationship had moved quickly — they had plans to perform Umrah together in December, a trip for which he had already covered all expenses.
His family had also made deep connections with hers in Lagos. His mother had met her family on two separate occasions, and his sister had even sent her five abayas for the recent Ileya celebration.
Expressing his pain online, he wrote:
“Something happened and I don’t know how to react. I’m so confused. Sorry for jare I was busy. So there is a single hangout that happened in Manchester yesterday, it was organised by one of these UK TIKTOK matchmakers.”
“I was the videographer for the event, unfortunately I got there late because my train got canceled twice but I got there regardless.”
“When I got in I met couple of people that came for the event and some vendors and the organizers too, the event hasn’t really started fully which means I met the very first program of the event. I started my own job as the videographer and things are going on.”
“They asked people to be introducing one another, it’s going on and on until I saw my girlfriend, she was at the event too.”
“She introduced herself, the template of the introduction is say your name, the city you live and how long you’ve been single.”
“My girlfriend introduced herself and mentioned that she’s been single for 2yrs, in short she said her last relationship was in Nigeria and it ended cos she relocated and since she arrived UK she’s never been in any relationship. Mind you, we started dating like 2 months ago, May 18 precisely.”
“I was pained and confused, I almost called her out at the event but I kept my cool, she didn’t see me which I’m happy about.”
“Part of the program of the event is live date where men and ladies will come out, ask each other out and match if their interest align, fortunately or unfortunately she made a match.”
“The event ended and everyone left for their house, sadly I watched her left the event in the car of the guy she matched with.”
“I got home and she texted me how was the job I went for I said it was okay and I asked about her day she said she’s been feeling unwell and she’s been indoor since morning.”
“I love her, I can’t even deny that, I’m hurt badly, so badly, what should I do, how do I handled this, we are going December Umurah together.”
“I’ve paid for everything. She’s in contact with my mom, my mom have met her family in Lagos twice. My sister sent her 5 abaya from Nigeria for ileya. All of this in just two month she said yes to me.”
