A Nigerian woman has publicly shared her heartbreaking and deeply personal experience after uncovering her husband’s infidelity shortly after she returned home from a three-week hospital stay following the birth of their child.
The woman took to her X (formerly Twitter) page to narrate the painful ordeal in a lengthy post, describing how a seemingly ordinary visit from a guest unexpectedly led to the devastating discovery of betrayal within her marriage.
The woman, who goes by the handle @Ryann_Agada, recounted her story in detail:
“It happened after I had my third baby. I was in the hospital for weeks because there were complications during the delivery. When we finally came home, family and friends started coming to visit and greet the baby.”
She went on to explain that one of the visitors was a friend of her cousin who came bearing gifts, including a beautiful dress for her.
“My cousin’s friend also came by. She said my cousin had told her I had just given birth and was very ill, so since she was in town, she decided to visit. She brought gifts for the baby and a lovely boubou dress for me too.”
At the time of the visit, her husband was out running errands. When he returned, the visitor mentioned she was about to leave, and her husband casually stepped outside again.
“My husband was out running errands when she arrived. When he came back, she said she was leaving. My husband casually walked out.”
It was then that the woman’s mother, who was preparing to leave the house, accidentally overheard a private conversation between her husband and the visitor.
“My mom was going out to get something when she overheard them talking. That was when the truth came out.”
The woman revealed that her husband had begun the affair with the visitor during their wedding period and that the relationship continued for almost a year before he ended it.
“My husband had an affair with her. They met during our wedding period and kept seeing each other for almost a year before he broke things off. According to him, he ‘settled’ her and asked her to move to Abuja, even giving her money to start a business.”
The story took an even more distressing turn, as the woman explained that the visitor had since gotten married but had been unable to conceive.
A medical scan revealed that her uterus had been damaged, which was a heartbreaking discovery.
“This happened about six years ago. The problem now is that she got married and has been trying to conceive. She eventually went for a scan and found out that her uterus had been damaged.”
According to the visitor, the damage was caused by an abortion she underwent after becoming pregnant by the husband.
“She claimed it happened during an abortion she had when she got pregnant for my husband.”
The woman further shared that the visitor tried to reach out to her husband but received little to no meaningful response.
“She called him to tell him, but according to her, he didn’t respond in a reasonable way. So she traveled to Lagos and came to my house to confront him.”
Expressing her deep disappointment and sense of betrayal, the woman wrote:
“This is the same man I used to brag about to my friends, that he would never look at another woman because of how shy he was. I was the one who even made the first move. I trusted him with my life.”
She also revealed that the most painful part of the ordeal was that her mother found out about the affair before she did.
“The most painful part? It was my mother who found out first. We’re still together, but I don’t know how long I can carry on.”
Despite the betrayal, her mother advised her to stay in the marriage for the sake of their children.
“My mom wants me to stay for the kids. She says it’s in men’s nature to cheat. My husband insists it happened only once and promises it will never happen again.”
Nevertheless, the woman confessed to feeling deeply scared and confused by the whole situation.
“But the fact that it happened at all, and I didn’t even suspect anything, is what scares me the most.”
She concluded her post with a vulnerable reflection on her current state of mind:
“I’m 34. The idea of divorcing after almost 8 years of marriage feels like failure. I’m very confused. I don’t know what to do.”
